User Guide

Online's range of ultrasonic pig signallers - available with two distinct technologies - confirm passage of pigs without the need for magnets or transmitters.

How It Works

Passive Pig Signallers utilise advanced sensors to detect the distinctive sound of the pig within the pipeline.  Active Pig Signallers employ the pulse-echo method to detect the time of flight of ultrasonic pulses through the pipe.  A pulse is sent through the pipe wall, and if an acoustically transparent column of fluid is present, the unit detects reflections from the other side of the pipe.  When a pig passes, disturbing the fluid path, the interruption is processed, signalling the pig passage.

Key Features

  • Easy to install and sensor provided on cable meaning the housing can be mounted separately - ideal for buried lines or where space is limited.
  • No additional accessories such as magnets or transmitters are needed.
  • The Active model can be used to locate pigs within the pipeline.  This is particularly useful at the receiver where the pig can often lose momentum and stall immediately after the mainline tee but prior to the pig receiver isolation valve.

Local and Remote Monitoring

  • Local Confirmation: Receive on-site confirmation of pig passage via the display.
  • Remote Communication: Stay connected with your pipeline operations with remote signalling via SCADA system.
